Project: VETERAN
The story so far
The boat was designed by Jeff Hunton, the original Hunton powerboat company based in southern England. She was designed in the 1980s and first saw action in 1990 at the Guernsey Gold Cup, which she won.
Over the years she has had several guises and been raced by several teams. In 2008 she was entered in the Round Britain but retired after a couple of legs due to mechanical problems.
The boat was fully kitted out, with Garmin GPS Map 5012 touchscreen chart plotter for the driver, GMI 10 speed indicator for the throttle man, g2 Vision bluecharts covering the whole of the UK and Ireland, as well as a handheld GPS for backup/grab bag. And powered by Twin Chief V8's 501's installed by Hunton.
We understand she operated in Ireland, and she almost sank after a technical failure at sea. Luckily she survived to race again, and we will over-engineer this area to prevent any recurrence.
When we found her, she was owned by seasoned racer, Jonathan Napier of team 747. When we explained our plans and reasons for wanting to get her back racing, it resulted in a deal. Trevor purchased the hull and drives, which were then shipped back to his premises in Bilston, West Midlands. She now lives inside a unit protecting her from the elements and work has started to prepare her for future life.
She may be old and injured, but she still has a lots of life in her yet. So we have renamed her VETERAN.
The Veteran boat has made significant progress since the onset of COVID-19. The bespoke gearboxes are nearing completion, enhancing the vessel's performance. Additionally, we've taken on new projects along the way. Stay tuned for further updates, including a comprehensive site update to keep you informed on our latest developments.
What’s next?
Our plan is to get the VETERAN sea worthy again and then to participate in some historic and class 3 events in a couple of years. We will also be looking at marathon events and other challenges we think the VETERAN will be suitable for
Our aims are to enter and compete in the following events;
· Cowes/Torquay/Cowes
· Round isle of white
· Round Anglesey
· Round Ireland
· Round Britain under 50
· London to Monte Carlo
· London to Calais
Plus many more events and shows to raise awareness about injured service personnel. You will be able to follow our progress online and via Instagram and facebook.

Due to all the Covid restrictions many races got cancelled. As sad as this is we look forward to getting entry into a race in the future.
Looking ahead we are working with our sponsors and endeavour to complete the challenge. This journey has always been about raising awareness and not giving up.
"We are deeply saddened by the news of Mike Bellamy's passing in 2023. He was a remarkable individual known for his accomplishments in powerboating, including winning the 1969 Round Britain race and setting numerous water speed records. He played a pivotal role in helping to restore The Hunton and his 1972 Phantom 23, a Jaguar-powered boat. Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family during this difficult time. Rest in peace, Mike; your legacy in the world of powerboating will surely endure. Thank you for everything you did, Mike. You will always be remembered."
